Signs of Summer

I haven’t been out on a photography only trip in awhile, so even when I just go out for other reasons I try to take my camera with me now.

So on a recent trip to a relatives house, on the way back I decided to take a new route home and was finally able to get some round bales in the field. Why I say finally is the farmers around here are just to quick for me. They have been baling their hay and picking it up as they go.

As I have mentioned before I have been going through my catalog and looking at some of my older images. This time around I took at look at an older one that I have edited and seeing if it could be improved with the latest software.

Recently Topaz upgraded their DeNoise AI program to version 2.4 and it includes an improved Low Light model. Better detail preservation through improved AI architecture and more training time.

So I thought I would give it a try on a favorite Film Days scan of an image I had.

And I think it did a great job.

I particularly wanted to bring out the bridge and mountain in the background.

Below is a comparison of the before and after of that part of the image. Notice the sharpness and detail that are now shown in the red bridge. You can see all the cross bars.

And here is the final full image. I now it is hard to tell on this small image, but I’m loving the detail in the bridge, the trees on the left and even the right. And Mount Taranaki.

Going through older images

Taking sometime this holiday weekend to take a look at some older images that I marked to edit but never got around to.

It is worth your time to go through your older images from time to time. As technology changes in photography software some of those images that you didn’t think would work may now be one of your better images. You never know.

Anyway, here is one of the images I worked on this weekend from a 2016 trip down to Fells Point in Baltimore with a photographer friend of mine. One of the early morning trips that I have taken. I’m not a morning person, so this took some dedication.

Last Art Show of the season

It’s that time of year again, that it is the end of my Art Show Season this weekend. If you are in the Carroll County, Md area, but sure to stop by the Carroll Farmers Market in Westminster at the Ag Center this Saturday from 8 am to 2 pm.

Since it is the last show of the year, it is also a customer appreciation day, and I will be giving up to 25% of my prints. So if there was something that you liked during the year, but didn’t get it, this weekend will be your best deal of the year.

Abandoned A-Frame home and broken footbridge

Not totally sure that no one lives in this home anymore, but I’ve always loved the look of it by the stream. Even though the footbridge is no longer usable, I think it still ads character to the scene

Image for Today

While out taking a few images for a long term project which will take me at least nine months I decided to see what different kind of compositions I could get.

Below is one of my favorites of the evenings experiments in different compositions. I may post some others later on

Older Structures

On the way to a camera club meeting this week I passed an old mill that I drive by all the time and I’ve been meaning to get a picture of. As I passed, I realized I was going to be early so I turned around and parked the car and set out to get my picture of this old mill.

I mention this as further down the road was an older home that again, I have driven by for years and always thought to myself, I need to stop and get a picture of that. I have no idea when this house was built, but it obviously was one of the earlier homes built in the area. It had a large overhanging roof porch that looked like it went all the way around the sides and front of the house. It would have made a great picture.

I say would as when I drove by after getting my pictures of the old mill I was sad to see that it had been knocked down and removed from the property.

It just reminded me, if there are older structures you have been wanting to get a picture of, get it now, don’t wait and say I’ll get that someday as when that someday comes, it might not be there.

Here is one of the photos of the mill that I was able to get that evening.

Mill Creek Falls

A Day long photo trip

A few Sunday’s ago I decided I was going to drag myself out of bed at the early hour of 5 AM so I could get a Sunrise Photo over the Chesapeake Bay. This turned out to be just the beginning of my day. After I sunrise was done I decided to see what else was around this neck of the woods. As I had driven over an hour to get to my sunrise location I figured, why not get other things while I’m this far from home in the surrounding area.

I’ve got more to come, but will start off with the last location of the day

Thinking of My First Home

Recent passing of an Aunt

With the recent passing of an Aunt that was the last of my fathers immediate family, I been thinking a lot of New Zealand, my first home. Even though I left New Zealand as a young child, I still consider it home and still have many family members there. I do occasionally get to go back and visit but not as often as I like.

For the photographers out there and anyone who likes outdoors, New Zealand is a beautiful county and I think is one of the places where you can experience every kind of environment from the Snowy Alps in the south to Desserts in the central highlands, and of course everything in between like the tropics or at least subtropics.

The photo below is one of those places that I just had to visit my last time back home.

Cathedral Cove

Cathedral Cove on the Northeast side of the Coromandel Peninsula of the North Island. There is a little hiking involved to get down to this beach and some area’s are very steep, but the track was well maintained when we were there.
